    Hello Team,

We are having a main website, say https://abc.com running with version 4.3.1 and installed many plugins, it is a live site now. Also having some subdirectories like https://abc.com/view , https://abc.com/view1 and these are also with version 4.3.1. Now we would like to enable multisites for our main wordpress installation. So we would like to know whether it is possible to enable multisite with currently running wordpress website.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello itzforu,

Starting a multisite or network is actually really easy regardless of the stage your website is at.

All you need to do is follow this guide

When adding your other current sites to it you would need to export the old ones and import the new ones and then do all the fun DNS editing to go along with it.

    Hope this helps,
    Kevin

    Hello Kpudlo,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have successfully installed Multisite on my domain. And also activated subdirectory for adding site to network like /test . If I add a site, say domain.com/test1, whether the test1 should be a wordpress site? Please clarify this as i am little bit confused and new to wordpress

    itzforu,

Now that you have multisite setup when you go to your network and add a new site, like test1, it will create the domain.com/test1 site for you.

That site will be WordPress as well, but unlike a single install, you will only be able to activate plugins and themes, and not install them. Aside from that though, everything should work just like a normal WordPress install!

    Does that answer your question?

    Thanks for your reply.

I have successfully installed multisite, and I added some sites to the network. After adding the site to network, only the wp-admin is working fine, can’t access the added site home page.

Could you please tell me what might be the reason for this?

    Thanks and Regards

    Hello again itzforu,

That sounds like it could be a DNS issue. Depending on your host you’ll need to setup a wildcard subdomain for your primary domain. The method will be particular to your host though, so I would search their support forums for help with that!

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help!
