    Hi,

While I would like to go forward using the Gutenberg version to start asap with the latest and future updates in WP, I also encounter a big issue.
The classic “custom buttons”, offered by third party plugins and integrated in the tinyMCE editor, are not displayed in the new editor anymore, and I can’t find any source showing that they would come back soon.

In the past I hoped that “TinyMCE Advanced” could once edit which custom buttons have to be shown or not. In fact now I’m more concerned by the simpler fact to, at least, have them usable in the new editor.
One plugin offers a particularly awesome work by allowing to use post IDs instead of slugs, which is sooo! much more robust. Ideal to not break links & also for multilingual sites sharing post links! In fact I hoped that WordPress already worked that way …
Sadly this plugin isn’t maintained since two years, but I guess that it should still work for a long time since it works well and relies on very basic functionalities.

For this particular example I NEED to have it enabled in the new editor, but can’t rely on the developer who isn’t working on his product for now.

Also, for the best transition in the short and long term, could you have a look on how to allow all those custom buttons to be displayed on the new editor?

I try not to make useless requests and understand the work that it might need, but this one is so essential to me, and certainly many others that I can’t wait longer for this need.

You can alternatively have a look on a similar topic here for inspiration : https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/4658

    Best regards.

Right, it is a new, different editor.

All custom TinyMCE buttons should still work in the Classic and Classic Paragraph blocks. I’m afraid they won’t work in any other block. Most would be out of context anyway.

If a plugin is adding a particular functionality to the old editor that is needed, and has been discontinued, chances are another developer would offer similar plugin that will do something similar in the new editor (I wish I had a better news).

    Update.
I talked here especially about the crazy useful “RB internal links” plugin. After a new testing it seem that its button hopefully still appears in the new classic editor block. Awesome news after my last trial.
Still some other -useless- butons don’t work butI don’t care so much.

It seem that I now encounter probably some plugin conflicts with the old editor, displaying top menu items of the visual editor but no buttons at all under it anymore! But that’s an other story to dig in.

To rely on a previous statement :

In the past I hoped that “TinyMCE Advanced” could once edit which custom buttons have to be shown or not.

Could you ever implement this to make our TinyMCE editor really ours by customizing/hiding those, sometimes annoying buttons too? this would be awesome.

    Best regards.

That was actually possible, long time ago. Unfortunately quite a few people ended up disabling buttons added by other plugins and then reporting “bugs” to the authors of these plugins because they forgot they have disabled the buttons or because another user disabled them…

All right, I can quite understand this, since I ended with some troubles too, but using CSS. And while your classes are changing numbers, it led to some issues as one of my latest.

PS: sadly I had to reset all the settings and re-arrange all buttons since there seemed to be a little bug in my display settings. Maybe it was due to that CSS I added, but I don’t think so. However everything seem good for now.

    Thanks!

I’m glad it worked out at the end ??

Yes, the buttons IDs are “dynamic” and cannot be used for styling. The “proper way” to remove a button from the TinyMCE toolbar is to filter the settings for the toolbar from PHP before they are outputted. You’ll need a small custom plugin to do that though.
