Hi. On the plugin settings page, there is a setting titled “Enable Content Shortcodes?”

The tooltip says “?Shortcodes in the post/page content are disabled by default.”

    Does that mean that:
    a) this plugin disables shortcodes in post/page content by default, unless you check this box
    –OR–
    b) WordPress disables shortcodes in post/page content by default

Currently on our site, shortcodes are allowed, in some cases, in post/page content. (I don’t know if that is by default, or because of something in our theme or another plugin.) Will this plugin change that, unless I check the box?

    Hi @hommealone,
    Thanks for your message.

    To confirm:
WordPress doesn’t have any notifications relating to post content by default – this is functionality added by installing the BNFW plugin.
BNFW won’t change your posts/page/custom post types in any way – this option to disable shortcodes in the post content only relates to how shortcodes are shown in emails that are created in BNFW.

To clarify that feature in the plugin:

Other plugins add shortcodes that you can use in the content of your post/page/custom post type. E.g. in WooCommerce, you can use the shortcode [woocommerce_cart] to show the cart on a page.

If a site has a lot of plugins installed, and you use a lot of shortcodes in your posts for example, then when a notification is sent, BNFW would have to ensure all of those shortcodes are rendered as real content before sending the notification. Otherwise, the contents of the [post_content] BNFW shortcode would be littered with shortcodes from other plugins that are just printed and not rendered.
This checkbox allows you to choose whether you want shortcodes to be rendered correctly, at the risk of them slowing down the email sending process, or just printed instead, thereby speeding things up.
If you use the [post_content] shortcode in your BNFW emails and they show shortcodes printed in the emails rather than being rendered, you can enable this option to make them show as expected.

Hopefully I’ve explained this well enough but do let me know if anything doesn’t make sense.

    Hi @hommealone,
Not a problem. Glad I could help.

If you like BNFW and the support, please feel free to leave an honest review.
