Hi, I’m trying to test this plugin out, I’ve set up my tax rates in woocommerce, I’ve made some test orders which display the tax at checkout. However the VAT report in the plugin area is empty – no rows, what am I doing wrong?
I’m selecting all the order statuses. ( VAT Compliance Readiness is all Green )

    Hi,

    1) The report is built by JavaScript, so perhaps some other component has caused a JavaScript exception on the page; check your browser console.

    2) If not that, then if you select one of these orders, then what is shown in the VAT meta-info box in the WooCommerce order page?

Thanks for getting back to me David,

So I can’t see any javascript errors in the console.

I also noticed when I export the csv it’s empty as well apart from the header, but that might be because I don’t have premium yet? We were planning on getting the premium version if the initial testing goes well but this report problem is not ideal as we need to see what it looks like.

Please can you give the information requested in 2) ?

    Sorry missed that

“`WooCommerce registered the customer as not being tax-exempt.
    Currency conversion source:
    European Central Bank

Country used to calculate tax: France (FR)
IP Country: United Kingdom (UK) (GB) – source: WooCommerce built-in geo-location`”

That’s 100% of what it says in that meta-box?

What is the tax on the order? A screenshot would be best.

That’s 100% what it says in the “VAT Compliance Information” box.

I can’t see how to add a screenshot but the breakdown on the order is this – so 3.04 EUR for tax

    Items Subtotal:	€9.99
    Shipping: €5.20
    S: €3.04
    Order Total: €18.23
    Paid: €18.23
    27th May 2021 via Card
     Stripe Fee: - €0.78
     Stripe Payout: €17.45

Is ‘S’ the tax? Have you added that in the plugin settings for what tax labels should be identified as VAT?

    S for standard rate,

Have you added that in the plugin settings for what tax labels should be identified as VAT?

Is that “Tax classes used for customer place-of-supply goods”?
    Standard is ticked yes.

If it’s not that where do I configure it?

By “what tax labels should be identified as VAT?” I was referring to the setting which is labelled “Phrase matches used to identify VAT”.

This allows the plugin to distinguish taxes which are VAT from any potential taxes which are not (which, if you’re a seller in Europe, are unlikely to exist at all).

I added S in that list so it now looks like

    “S, VAT, V.A.T, IVA, I.V.A., Value Added Tax, TVA, T.V.A., BTW, B.T.W.”

but still no reports are showing

When did you add it? Before the orders were placed, or after? The plugin records order-time data based on order-time configuration, because it is data for audit. It doesn’t retrospectively edit order-time data if the settings change. In that situation you’d have to either use the WooCommerce built-in tax reports, or use the Premium version’s detailed CSV download to re-calculate your taxes in a spreadsheet.

i.e. In this case, assuming that when the order was placed, “S” was not configured as a sub-string that identifies VAT, then the plugin won’t have noted that tax as VAT, so it won’t appear in the VAT report summary, even if you edit the configuration afterwards.

Thanks, that makes sense and I put through another test order and I now see I have report data, thanks for clearing that up.

It’s led me to a couple of further question though,

Is it possible to display the tax rate code in the report.

And if I add some extra reduced tax rates in the tax list, how do I target those at a product? or product types.

I’m an EU tax newbie and we want to offer some products at standard and some at reduced rate.

The way to include the tax rate in both the report and the invoice (which is often legally required) is to include it in the tax label in your tax tables, as in the (first, though not always subsequently) example in WooCommerce’s tax documentation, which also covers how to put different products in different tax classes: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/setting-up-taxes-in-woocommerce/
