    Hi chadcf92,

There could be a space or some character in one of the products’s custom field values, that could be causing this field to show in the sidebar. Could you please check if that’s the case?
If you do not need that field to be searchable & displayed in the sidebar you can set “Searchable?” to “No” for that custom field by navigating to the “Custom Fields” tab.

    Hi EtoileWebDesign,

There are no spaces or characters in the custom field. All empty. (https://imgur.com/a/fiVWbpS)

Unfortunately, I need those fields to be searchable in some of my other catalogues. So I can’t disable this option.

There is something else that is weird. Let’s say I have 4 catalogues named W X Y Z.

W: Is here I need those fields to be searchable.
X: Is where I have my problem.
Y & Z: The fields aren’t showing up when empty (what it should be for X too).

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi chadcf92,

Oh sorry, we meant in the “Input Values” of the custom field settings.

For example, if you go to the “Custom Fields” tab in the plugin settings and click the name of one of your checkbox custom fields (e.g. “Moteur”), can you send us the exact text that appears in the “Input Values” section?

    Hi EtoileWebDesign,

    No worries.

Sure here is what its written in “input values” section of “Moteur”: https://imgur.com/a/iO6i8RV

But the “Moteur” custom field is not a problem. Here is what its written in one of my problematic custom fields (this one is for the “Pression” field): https://imgur.com/a/mlYBZQ4

I made sure it was empty in the “Input Values” section. But I can still see it appears when it’s empty.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Chad,

Actually, I think the only thing you need to do is enable both “Hide Empty Filtering Options” (in the “Basic” area of the “Options” tab) and “Hide Blank Custom Fields” (in the “Premium” area of the “Options” tab). With both of those options enabled, it will hide any values that don’t apply to that catalog.

    Hi EtoileWebDesign,

The “Hide Empty Filtering Options” is activated (in green) and the “Hide Blank Custom Fields” is also activated (also in green).

    Thanks for your help.

If you have those options enabled, then the empty custom fields definitely will not show in the filtering sidebar. If, in your case, you have those enabled and the custom fields are still showing in the sidebar, that sounds like you have some kind of caching happening that is preventing you (everyone) from seeing the changes on your site (i.e. you’re being served an older version of the page).

As a test, could you please try deactivating any caching plugins that you have, to see if it makes any difference?

If not, then you may have another plugin that is doing something similar. You could try temporarily deactivating all other plugins, to see if it then displays correctly. If it does, you could then reactivate them one by one to see which is causing the issue.

    Hi EtoileWebDesign,

If it’s the case that I’m being served an older version of the pages, my new catalogue or categorie pages should not contain those empty custom fields. However, they do.

I desactivated my only caching plugin and it doesn’t do any difference.

I also desactived all my other plugins (except the catalogue plugin) and there are still there.

I tried clearing my Google Chrome cache too. No difference.

    Thanks for your help.

I’m not sure what to tell you. Those options definitely work. There’s something specific to your install that is causing a conflict. Perhaps the theme. Perhaps a product with some incorrect values for a custom field…

If you create a new catalog with one product in it, do those empty custom fields show in the sidebar? If not, then you’ll know it’s related specifically to one of the products in your other catalog. You could then check inserted custom field values, to make sure there isn’t something incorrect (code, for example) in there. Also, if those are fields with input values (e.g. checkbox), then make sure the input values are entered correctly (e.g. “one, two, three, four”).

Yes they show up in the new catalogue.

Also, everything on my WordPress website is up to date.

Do you think having access to my catalogue would help you to identify the bug I’m having?

We’d be glad to take a look for you. I can’t promise that will help us find the conflict, but we’d be happy to check. You can email us at [email protected]
