    Hi All,

I’m having an issue where when the Back button is clicked on the browser when on the checkout page (to return to the cart), it shows an empty cart. The user then must refresh this page to show the items in the cart.

I know this isn’t supposed to happen because I’ve tested this on other e-commerce sites. And this is something important because I feel many users will use the back button on the browser instead of clicking the “Go Back to Cart” link on the page.

Is this something that Woocommerce does or is there some kind of bug going on? Any tips on how to fix?

    Thank you.

  • Hi @jenelevate ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you are experiencing an issue where clicking the back button on the checkout page, directs you to the cart page however the cart is empty unless the page is refreshed, is that correct?

I have gone to your site, and am unable to replicate this issue as the item remains in the cart after navigating back once on the Checkout page, as seen in this screencast.

Can you please try clearing your browser cache and then checking if the issue is still present? Also, you can try doing the same in private/incognito mode and see if the issue persists on your end.

Please can you clarify the following:

    • Does this occur on specific browsers or various browsers?
    • Does this occur for all products or specific products?
    • Does this occur when logged in, and logged out (as admin and/or customer)?

    Cheers!

    Hi Roxy,

Thanks for your response. I looked through your screencast and it appears you clicked the “back to cart” button on the page instead of the browser’s back button. I meant this only happens when the user clicks on the back button in the browser. However, the back button on the page works fine.

Please try again, but this time click the back button on your browser and you will see what I am talking about.

Plenty of people use the back button on the browser’s interface instead of the one on the page so I think this is a nuisance.

    Thank you!

    Hi @jenelevate ,

    Ah, gotcha!

I have gone to your site to test in the way you have described. However, it appears that the “Test 1” product is no longer being displayed, while the remaining Zoom Webinar products redirect to zoom.us and google.com, rather than adding the product to the cart for testing this further:

Please could you re-add the “Test 1” product to the site, I’d be happy to test this further on my end ??

    Thanks!

    Hi Roxy,

I’m sorry that happened! I’m trying to figure out what is making the listings expire. But I have republished it for now.

    Please proceed to test again.

    Thank you!

    Hi @jenelevate ,

It appears that I am still unable to see these products on my end. I have tried in incognito mode, as well as various browsers.

In the meantime, can you see if performing a full conflict test resolves the current issue you are experiencing, where pressing the back button on the browser displays an empty cart?

To test, you’ll first want to change the theme on your site to Storefront, then check to see if the issue is still present. If that resolves the issue, you’ll want to get in touch with your theme’s developer and see if they have an update or fix for you.

If changing the theme doesn’t help, you’ll want to deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce and take a look. If that fixes the problem, re-enable the other plugins one by one (gradually), checking after each, to see where the issue is coming from.

If you don’t want to test on your live site, then create a staging site using a plugin called WP Staging.

Let us know how this goes!

    Hi @jenelevate ,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if you need any further help with this.

    Cheers!
