    Hi all,

I’m using version 5.4.1 with neve theme and Gutenberg.
I’ve set alt tags on images in the media library but the tags are empty when loading the pages. I tried with twenty twenty theme, same problem.

I see it’s possible to set alt tags in the image block settings in Gutenberg but I was wondering : why is it possible to set these tags in the library if they’re not used ? Am I missing something ? Do I have to stick with the image block settings ?

    Thanks for your help

It should work by adding in the Media Library.
    Can you share your URL?

When you add alt tags to an image in the Media Library, that will be the default alt-text for the image when you insert it from there into a post.

But the alt tag actually lives in the post itself. Changing it in the media library will not retroactively change it in all the posts that you use the image in.

    Oh thanks for this clarification.

I’ve indeed set the alt tags after creating the posts.
So I’ve removed the image, saved and inserted the image again and the tags are there now.

    Thanks for your help.

And this is not the way it used to be in classic editor! Another Gutenberg bug.

For example, I write a post. Drag and drop 1 image, second, third, have 50 of them. Empty alt in Media Library, empty alt it Gutenbrg editor.

AND! Now I have to change alt text twice! Because new editor doesn’t see updated alt from medialibrary and medialibrary doesn’t get alt set in Gutenberg.

Yeap, you can edit only in Gutenberg. Ok. And now you want to search file in library by.. alt of course, you don’t remember right filename… And you find nothing.

Old classic editor used to take alt/title from media library, you update info in ML – it updates in each post, having this image. With Gutenberg…

    * alt is important not only for SEO and searching, it’s lightbox/colorbox caption.. it WAS useful and convenient before f Gutenberg

5.4.2 with classic editor plugin now works that way:

    1. Galleries take alt from ML;
    2. Single images not

In some old WP 4.* single images used to take alt from ML too.

Is there any way/hook to make WP 5.* do it again?

*Gutenberg galleries don’t take alt from ML(

Also you have no way to change the alt in Gutenberg gallery, wow

There is such a field in sidebar for a single image but not for the image in the gallery! So you can change it only in code editor or delete gallery and paste it again

Why did I updated my blog… hate “these new cool features” ??
