    CURRENTLY

‘W3 Total Cache’ was working for us most of the time, and did improve performance. We used Page Cache, Options Cache, CDN with CloudFront, Mimify, and Browser Carch.

However, on occasion we needed to update or add new plug-ins to our wordpress site.

    ISSUE

During plug-in changes, we would not see the changes reflected on the website, so we would use “Empty all caches”. 80% of the time, “Empty all caches” would cause the website to “stop responding” entirely, until it would reset itself 30mins later.

Sometimes, this reset would introduce bugs, for example, the last time it occurred, the wp_options database table disappeared, and caused the entire site to become unusable.

    QUESTION

Why does “Empty all caches” cause the website to stop responding sometimes? e.g. is it a memory issue?

Is there any known solution for this issue?

    Hello @wronski

I am sorry about the issue you are experiencing and I am happy to assist you with this.
This is most likely the environmental issue. Meaning the issue occurs due to slow (shared) hosting.
Emtying>purging the cache can sometimes use a lot of server resources. If you are on a shared server, it’s also recommended not to use Object Cache or Database cache especially if caching to disk.
So can you please confirm if you are on shared hosting and also did you mean Object cache when saying “Options Cache”?
If this is the case, please disable Object cache and see if you are still experiencing the issue.
    Thanks!
