EML not showing my album category filter
-
Hello my album category is not showing.
-
Hello @jakemillerphoto,
I am not sure I quite understand your question, so please clarify it if my answer isn’t suitable for you.
Please check 2 options:
1) Media Settings > Taxonomies > Your Taxonomy > Filter for List View and Filter for Grid View / Media Popup
or
Media Settings > Taxonomies > Your Taxonomy > Edit in Media Popup
2) Media Settings > Taxonomies > Options > Filters > Force filters
Best,
-NadiaWhat?
Where is this Media setting. I know I’m being vauge but you shouldn’t be. Please write a full length step by step explanation. I’m saying I can’t filter based on my albums. That’s all I want to do.
Well, step by step explanation:
Step 1: Write a polite question to plugin’s author since he/she is not your slave.
Step 2: Describe your problem in great details, post screenshots, make sure that the description was complete and understandable to another person.
Step 3: Get a response with the solution or clarifying questions.
Step 4: Politely answer questions if needed.
Step 5: Get a solution of your problem, say “thank you for your job and help” to another human being, leave the forum in happy and positive mood.
That’s it. Thank you for understanding.
From your screenshot I can assume that you have a media category called “Albums” and when you are trying to filter by it in the list view of media library, you cannot see any image.
1) Please make sure that this category contains images in it.
2) Check if the filter works in the grid view.
3) Try to deactivate other plugins one by one to make sure that there is no one causing the issue.
4) Let me know your version of the EML and WP.
The issue looks like something affects media queries along with EML. But I need more details about your WP-installation.
Best,
-NadiaI looked at the screenshot again and noticed another detail: you have at least 2 media library plugins. The second is Media Library Assistant. We have paragraph in our plugin description suitable for this situation:
Incompatibility
Please notice that you use the Enhanced Media Library with other plugins that add media categories, media folders, and manage MIME Types at your own risk. We cannot guarantee their compatibility because of different approach to the same functionality. It does NOT mean that we do not recommend using those plugins, it just means we do not recommend to use them at the same time with the Enhanced Media Library. Please choose the one you prefer.
I will check EML’s compatibility with MLA but I cannot promise to fix this since …the paragraph above.
Best,
-NadiaI’ve deactivated the other plugin.
“From your screenshot I can assume that you have a media category called “Albums” and when you are trying to filter by it in the list view of media library, you cannot see any image. 1) Please make sure that this category contains images in it.”
After reading this statement a few times I looked closer and now I I’m confused. Looks like I have two media category sections and then another media category all under ‘Media.’ Your plugin seems to add these cause I’ve deactivated and reactivated it and they go away.
Hello @jakemillerphoto,
Enhanced Media Library creates only one taxonomy by default: Media Categories. Taxonomies called Categories (without Media) look more like non-media taxonomies assigned with EML’s tool or in other way, for example with another plugin. To make sure please visit menu Media Settings > Taxonomies, scroll down to Non-Media Taxonomies ( see https://www.wpuxsolutions.com/downloads/images/eml-screenshot-13.png ) and check if some taxonomies are assigned to your media library.
For media library you can use specific media taxonomy like Media Categories that is created precisely for media items as well as existing post categories or WooCommerce categories or any other taxonomies that was intended for some post types other then media items.
Filters just show media items assigned to a category (media category or non-media category). You can assign you media to post categories and then you will be able to filter by them. So some of your media items can be assigned to Media Categories, and some – to (post) Categories. You just have to choose what you need.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Best,
-NadiaI’m not a programmer I just wanted to filter on my albums not learn Latin ; )
It is not about programming at all. Are you familiar with WordPress categories? Do you know what is WordPress posts and how they are related to categories? I mean as WordPress user, not as programmer. Can you assign your WordPress post to a category?
Best,
-NadiaI give up. Too much taxidermy. Good luck with that
I can help you only in case you are willing to accept my help. If you know how to work with native WordPress posts and categories, I will write instruction relying on this knowledge. If you don’t then you have to learn about this conception first. I do not know what you do not know.
The usage of EML is simple. After activation you get Media Categories. Media Categories are for media items like post Categories are for posts. You can create Media Categories like you create post Categories and assign media items to Media Categories like you assign posts to post Categories. Once you assigned a few media items to Media Categories you can filter by them. Filtering should work in this case. If it doesn’t then it’s a problem with other plugin or theme, we have to find which one and solve the issue.
Except this EML has a lot of flexible options that allow you, in particular, to link other taxonomies to media library.
Taxonomy is a way to categorize and systematize something. Post Categories is a taxonomy. Media Categories is a taxonomy. It’s a term that is used by WordPress itself. I do not know other English word that can convey the meaning. Sorry, English is not my native language. I believe that a dictionary can give you comprehensive idea about it.
So, EML allows to link any other taxonomy (post category, post tag, WooCommerce product categories, etc.) to media library. It means that you can categorize your media items by other taxonomy than initially created Media Categories. It looks like you have assigned some taxonomies to your media library and don’t need this actually. So what you have to do is JUST unset a checkbox (see the screenshot I’ve posted above). Then you have to assign you images or other media to Media Categories and you will be able to filter by them.
We are working now on documentation for EML, it will contain video tuts, in particular. I’ll let you know when it’s ready. Hope this will help more people to understand how EML works.
Best,
-NadiaAnother thing: I see on your screenshot “Albums” and “Weddings”. It looks like “Weddings” should be one of your Albums. Can you describe the structure of your Albums? Have you had any Album before you activated Enhanced Media Library? Would you mind to provide access to your website in order I was able to configure the plugin to meet your needs?
Best,
-Nadia
