• Having a serious problem here that involves everyone on my blog EXCEPT me. I have 2 authors and 1 administrator who cannot add simple html codes to their articles. Anything from a youtube embed to a new paragraph. All of it disappears if they try to preview their post, schedule, publish, submit for review.

This is really upsetting because I haven’t changed any settings, added any plugins or even changed any users. Trying to find a solution has been tedious and time consuming for me and yet I still have no answers.

    2.7.1.
    No additional plugins.

I’ll answer any additional questions anyone has. Thanks.

  • When you embed code from, for example YouTube, then you need to stay in html mode. If you switch to the visual editor then the code will be destroyed. Sounds like that is what is happening somewhere along the line.

Firstly, create a new user account, a test account with the same user level as the problem accounts.

Logout, then login with the newly created account.

At least you can then see for yourself if the problem does actually exist. Be sure to test in the major browsers, IE, FF, Opera, Safari, etc..

If you can’t replicate the problem, then i think the answer is quite obvious…

If you can, then set up a few test accounts with varying user-levels, login into them and try to replicate the problem…

    Rinse, repeat… … rinse, repeat…

    Process of elimination..

EDIT: And what Figaro said above (i wouldn’t know, i only use code view). ??

figaro: Untrue. I embed, switch back and add text, add thumbnails, everything. Embedding is the first thing I do. I do it and it works everytime, for me. These other users, not so much.

t31os: I’ve tested it for me in 6 different browsers, right down to crappy Netscape(yeah, I know, sad). But just now, as I was writing this, I made an Author account and tested it. We have fail…

So now the real question is, why the hell is WP tossing out any html inputted by my authors?

    figaro: Untrue.

Thanks…I’ll just mark this down as only being true for me…and maybe your other users ??

Next time don’t make it sound like the software was programmed to do that. My authors have no problem switching back and forth, they have a problem once they try to preview, publish or set pending approval.

No problem…any other instructions you would like to give the next time I try to help you for free? ??

Guys please, can we disagree in a friendly manner. ?? Please, i have cookies… ??

mrservo, i’ve tried testing the problem on my local install and can’t replicate it.

Have you run a check of your database to see if there’s errors on any of the tables?

Guys please, can we disagree in a friendly manner. ??

Trust me…I was being friendly ?? I’ll have chocolate chip with sprinkles ??

I’d settle for choc chip or a hobknob (that’s a biscuit here in the UK) … ?? To go with my hot cuppa tea ??

I can reproduce this over and over.

I have an admin and I have an Author.

admin can post embed codes in the html tab (I disable the visual tab for everyone) and the author, when they post an embed code and hit save, the embed code disappears.

I have this problem too, now even with the latest version of 2.8.2.

It only works if admin directly embed and publish the youtube video, and not to use the “submit for review” function.

I don’t know if you are still having this problem but I just found the answer.
Go to: Settings | Media | then clear “Attempt to automatically embed all plain text URLs” and increase the Maximum embed size to something bigger then you would need.

Also if you have “Video Embeder plugin” increase the default size and that should take care of the problem.

I am having exactly the same problem with my blog colleague, who is “Editor” on my blog. But it’s not just embedded media, it’s all paragraph codes that disappear when he opens a post for editing. <br />‘s and <p>‘s are all gone when he opens the post, whether it was created by him or by me, whether it’s published or as a draft. It happened in wordpress.com, and still happens now we moved to worpress.org.

We’re both on PCs using the latest FireFox, and he doesn’t use the Visual editor, only the HTML.

This is driving me crazy! Help!!!!!!!

I am having the same problem with my Author, just here the <center> as well as the title in images just disappear once trying to preview or Save Draft. Installed the latest WP 2.9.2. Using Firefox as well and only the HTML editor.

    Thank you for any help.

I have found the same thing happening to me and have discovered if there are any extra space, returns, or line indents (like for example to keep the code clear and legible), things can slip in and out of divs, tables or styling just because somebody hit the space bar an extra time. Go back into the html and take all line indents, spaces and returns and just have it as one continuous line and see what happens.
