Embedding self-hosted avi video

  • I’ve been searching all over the web for something that will help me do what I want, and have tried numerous plugins, with no luck so I thought I’d post here and maybe someone could provide some insight.

    Here’s the deal:
    I’m running the most recent release of WordPress (with BuddyPress) on my own server. I’m creating HD avi video and uploading it manually (via FTP) to my server. I want to be able to embed those uploaded avi files in posts and/or pages. That’s where I run into problems.

    I don’t want to host my video files elsewhere (like YouTube, Vimeo, etc), and I don’t want to have to convert these videos to flv because the conversion quality is usually not very high. (I CAN convert them to flv, but don’t want to.)

    I’ve tried the following plugins and none have done what I want:
    * Embedded Video
    * Viper’s Video Quicktags
    * All in one Video Pack
    * Bubblecast Video for WordPress
    and a few others that I can’t recall at the moment.

    In short, I’m wondering if there’s a method (preferably a plugin to automate the process, though manual means would suffice) that will allow me to embed self-hosted avi files into posts and/or pages so that I’m able to display high quality video on my site.

    Any help or suggestions anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

  • hmm…I use viper viseo quicktags to display my vids, it didn’t work for you?

    Nope, I tried it and had no luck. I’m not sure whether it was a matter of the file format I was using or what, but whenever I attempted to use it to embed, I got blank “plug-in required” boxes in my browser that led nowhere (firefox couldn’t find any plugin for whatever the embed was trying to do). Either way, the bottom line was that viper didn’t do what I needed it to, unfortunately.

    Did you find a way? I’m interested in this too.

    Don’t know if this helps but I have used Kimili to upload my own videos. There is also something out there i think Anarchos but I am not real familiar with it. Google either one.

    I’m trying WordTube and I think it’s the best (if not only) option for this task.

    No HTML5 support, though.
