• Hi all,

I want to install and start using WP, but want to make the blog part of (not the main focus of) an existing site. So ideally, I would like to somehow embed the blog into an area of a page, or at least make the blog page completely conform to the site style I have already….

Can this be done? Or will be best advised re-designing the site around the blog?

Any pointers / tuts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Aaronius

  • The most easy way to reach this is creating a so-called iframe, but I wouldn’t recommend that. If you want to know, how to do it: just ask!

    Aaronius,
you are asking two (2) very different questions:
    1. Embedding the blog/posts in an area of an existing site.
    Short answer: yes.
    Long answer: https://www.transycan.net/blogtest/2005/07/05/integrate/

    2. make the blog page completely conform to the site style I have
This practically means to design/make a theme that imitates your site’s style, layout etc.
start here Blog_Design_and_Layout and ALL the linked pages, sections…

Maybe this thread will help “WordPress Blog vs. WordPress CMS“.

    Thanks for the info.

I installed today, and I’m looking at the design and layout pages. Thanks for the pointers.

I’m leaving the iFrame idea alone. If I can get the header to have the same image and buttons that I currently use for my site then I’ll be content for the time being.

The website itself is pretty normal, (I’m not much of a web designer at the minute – I’ve got a lot to learn…) so as long as the blog looks part of the current site, then cool.

This brings up a couple of questions actually… The blog page does not HAVE to be the first page does it? I mean I would like the wordpress page to be an addition to the site.

Secondly, I think I read somewhere that when you update the blog it sends a message to another server to let that server know of the update. Would this be affected if the blog was not the front page?

    Thanks so far.
    Aaron

    No and no.

I have all my blogs in subfolders under the root.

The ping for the update service(s) is sent out regardless where your blog is.
