• Before I go into the details I want to let you know that the site I’m having problems with is an adult site so I won’t post a link publicly.

Basically what I am seeing is when going to my site with https the embedded videos do not display the preview thumbnail and the video won’t play. Since I have the 301 redirects set to https this is a bit of a problem. There is an issue with some ads not displaying as well but I think if I solve the problem with the videos the rest will fall into place.

Everything seemed to be working fine last week. A few days ago I noticed some of the ads and several of the thumbnail preview images were not displaying while I was updating the site. I checked it on a couple other PC’s and other browsers and it seemed to be limited to Firefox on my main PC. Today is a different story.

I’ve got a support ticket in with my host to see if they can find anything out of the ordinary. WordPress and all plugins are up to date.

I’ve tried the SSL Insecure Content Fixer plugin with no luck. Any suggests? What else can I check?

If anyone needs to look at my site to help diagnose the problem I can email the URL.

  • Hi Theonecloned,

How are you adding the videos to the site? Using the default WordPress ‘Add Media’ button or are you using a particular plugin to support the video aspect of the site?

    Hello Drew,
I purchased a theme that has the import functionality built in. I haven’t dug around too deep to see exactly how the developer added the import functionality. On the admin bar there is an import button with 6 choices for with sponsor to import from. Each sponsor has a search page where I can enter keywords and choose categories. When I hit search it displays a list with a thumbnail preview than I can either select individually or select all. I then have the option to pick a category and either post immediately or import as a draft. If would help diagnose things I could dig around the functions but my php knowledge is….lets say, limited.

So silly question but has that theme been updated recently and did the problem start then?

It could be quicker to ask the theme author if they are aware of any issues with SSL.

If you are still having issues let me know what the theme name is and i’ll see if I can find anything online for you.

No recent update on the theme. The latest update was about 5 months ago.

I emailed him and am still waiting to hear back. I did chat with another guy who uses this theme and he hasn’t noticed any issues on his sites.

I rolled things back a bit and removed a couple plugins and got rid of the redirects for now and have things back to working for the most part. I’m back to having the content warning when accessing the https but at least it’s there and working.

Any suggestions for updating my existing links to https? I think updating rather than forcing is going to be the key to solving this.

It is starting to sound a lot like the theme you are using is hard coding links using non-SSL. If that is the case, then you will need to theme author to update the theme or a developer to look at amending the code for you.

It’s obviously a little hard to suggest other things without being able to see the site/theme, but I quite understand why you do not post them.

Good luck, let me know how you get on.
