• Hello,

the wordpress plugin terms state that

The plugin must not embed external links on the public site (like a “powered by” link) without explicitly asking the user’s permission.

If the plugin acts as an interfaces to some external third party service, may the external third party service display a link when embedded to the blog by the plugin?

Example: The disqus comment system has a DISQUS logo with a link to the disqus homepage. Is this acceptable or not?

    Regards,

tl;dr: It’s complicated and we need more nuanced guidelines. Email [email protected]

    Longer answer:

Disqus is a very odd example to pull. Similar to FB comments, it’s one of those things where you kind of NEED to know where the comments are coming from (i.e. off site). Branding on embedded services like Disqus, Facebook, YouTube etc is more complicated than most plugins. They’re providing CONTENT, not just an API (like, say, Akismet).

If you feel you really should have this sort of branding, please email [email protected] and explain fully your justification.
