    Hello

A couple of days ago, order confirmation emails stopped being sent to our customers. We have been using Postman plugin for years with no issues.

I am getting this error in the log:https://prnt.sc/11×6860 – saying the server times out. I spoke to muy server hosts and they say there is no issue their end.

Also here is the connectivity report which says Port 465 is closed: https://prnt.sc/11x69c9

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks
    Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

That’s really unusual – the connectivity test failure is usually caused due to a firewall problem on the server. It looks like you are using a VPS from TSOHost?

Are you able to send mail from other SMTP accounts on the same server, for example through Thunderbird?

    Kind Regards,
    Tim

    Hi Tim

Yes I’m able to log into the server and send emails using roundcube and horde for example and emails externally are working fine – seems to be just the automatic WordPress emails that have stopped.

    One error is this:

You getting this message because an error detected while delivered your email.
    For the domain: https://www.cherryred.co.uk
The log to paste when you open a support issue:
    This email has empty body

    And the other is this:

You getting this message because an error detected while delivered your email.
    For the domain: https://www.cherryred.co.uk
The log to paste when you open a support issue:
    cherryredrecords.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk has timed out

The hosts say there is no issue so I am a bit at a loss as to what has happened as it was working fine up until a couple of days ago.

The only other thing I can think of is I updated woocommerce to the latest version – is there a glitch with that do you think?

    Cheers
    Lauren

    Hi Lauren,

Thanks for the additional information. I’ve got a customer running the latest WooCommerce and Post SMTP also at TSOHost, albeit on their shared platform rather than VPS. Unfortunately they haven’t got any orders that I can test with or see to confirm whether or not that’s the issue. I wouldn’t expect that to be the issue to be honest.

Can you paste a copy of your Post SMTP diagnostics log please?

You could also try swapping the hostname for localhost. As you’re on a VPS, with your web and SMTP on the same server that should work for you.

Would certainly be interested to see the results of a connectivity test to localhost actually?

    Kind Regards,
    Tim

I am also getting loads of email notifications coming through with this error:

    For the domain: https://www.cherryred.co.uk
The log to paste when you open a support issue:

How do I at least stop the emails as they are clogging up my inbox?

    Cheers!
    Lauren

    Hi @laurena86,

    Apologies for the delayed response.

Did you attempt to set your mail sending hostname as localhost? As you are on a VPS with web and SMTP services on the same physical server this should work fine in your instance. Please test this and let me know the outcome of your testing.

To disable admin notification emails, head into ‘Show All Settings’ in Post SMTP settings and then into the ‘Notifications’ tab. Where you’ve got the ‘Notification Service’ drop down, change this from ‘WP Admin Email’ to ‘None’, and that should stop those notifications. Note that this will no longer alert you about any Post SMTP failures by email.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,
    Tim
