    Hi,

I have never had any problems with this plugin, I use it for multiple websites, all based on the same SMTP server settings, etc. 5 days ago it gives me out of the blue the error that is not able to send emails. We followed your instructions; triple checked the settings, contacted the host, there is nothing wrong. We disabled all plugins, no change. The only change was the update to WordPress 5.0, so we downgraded to 4.9.8 to see, but no change. It keeps saying, mail cannot be send.

    It’s the general error:

Could not connect to the SMTP host.

This means your web server was unable to connect to #####hostserver####.
Typically this error is returned for one of the following reasons:
-SMTP settings are incorrect (wrong port, security setting, incorrect host).
-Your web server is blocking the connection.
-Your SMTP host is rejecting the connection.

I would like to give an update around this, it’s resolved but a complex issue that involves a firewall created by godaddy.

The SMTP error is “Connection refused(111)”. The initial settings on our pages were set as secured with SSL and port 465. We never had issues with this, until, we just discovered, added for the first time a contact form on our site, which enables Godaddy to pull up a firewall and this firewall doesn’t seem to go away. We changed the secured connection to TLS and port 587 and all worked as it should be.

In the end a simple solution, but something you would not take in mind, as we never had any issues before.

I hope it might give a solution for others who might face this.
