    Hello,

I am a new user have just done an initial SMTP connection, however the test email was not received by the Microsoft accounts (hotmail and outlook) but it was delivered to my gmail.

Does anyone know why that is or how to fix it? I tried submitting an “issue” to the pluggin support on git hub but never got a response.

    Thanks

  • It is interesting that you mention this. I set up an SMTP provider through the same server the website is hosted on and immediately ran into severe issues solely with Microsoft (every other email client worked).

    What happened:

    • I’m using their FluentForms Pro forms plugin alongside this FluentSMTP one
    • I set up an auto-response for all form submissions
    • One customer submitted the form and they use a hotmail address
    • The second that auto-response email got sent to the hotmail address, we were 100% blocked from sending ANY mail to any Microsoft email account. Everything was immediately blocked upon sending. Even direct emails wouldn’t work. We had no way of communicating with this customer and thus, lost their business.
    • We had to submit a request to Microsoft in order to unblock us from their system as Outlook and Hotmail had us blocked which took 1.5 days to resolve thanks to the awesome help from the hosting company.

Given that issue as well as this new issue were no email logs are displayed (no clue why it doesn’t work since it worked just fine before) gives me little confidence that I can trust this plugin to function when I need it the most.

    Hello @nikih20
Which sending service you are using? Amazon SES or something else? The emails are delivering to Gmail inbox which means Fluent SMTP is functioning well. The issue is somewhere else.
It can be the sending service or Microsoft services(Outlook, Hotmail) itself

Outlook and Hotmail sometimes or always block unencrypted emails very strictly than Gmail. You need to make sure you are forcing encryption.

Also, verify your SPF and DKIM records with the domain if you are using a custom domain as a sending domain.

    Thanks

I have been through hell with outlook email clients. I’ve tried to every form I’ve tried SMTP configuration I’ve tried setting up emails I’ve tried forward. DKIM, SPF, Add to contacts. It doesn’t matter Outlook rejects it no matter what. I have over 40 WordPress sites. It’s only the Outlook clients. I’ve come to realize, if there’s a link in the email or a short code for a password reset it’s not going to work. Sometimes the CONTENT of the email. Change the format put the actual link in it in html not the code with the parentheses try that. Or send it to your Gmail and put a rule in for forwarding. I had to give in to doing that for a woocommerce orders client. I literally sent it to my Gmail account and then had it forwarded to his business by using a rule. This is what we have to go through now. Good luck
