Two things I’m confused about: I set up the WP paypal cart, and I did a test purchase.

First, I didn’t get the ’email to buyer’ that I’d set up in the “Email Settings” area of WP Shopping Cart. I did get the confirmation from ‘service@paypal’ or whatever it is called. But where would the plugin even get the buyer’s email address? I didn’t get the seller sale confirmation from wordpress either, only from paypal.

Second, I set up a return URL thank you page where the buyer is supposed to be redirected after purchase. I wasn’t redirected there; after payment I was still on paypal, but had the option to click on ‘return to website’ (paraphrasing). Does a buyer have to click on that to get automatically back to the thank you page?

    thanks for any help

Can you check your permalink settings in your wordpress?

I’m sorry, I don’t quite understand what this means – can you give me directions? (I really appreciate the time you are putting in to help me, I’m not a computer person!)

Go to your admin panel and click on Settings >> Permalinks and tell me what you do have selected there?

OK, I see I go to settings, then permalinks:

Now it has checked under common settings as default:

    https://middlesexconservation.org/?p=123

Does this make sense? No other boxes are checked

What the permalink does it makes the URL better and more clear if you change it to something like Post Name…..i.e. /%postname%/

Changing your permalink structure improves search engines like Google display your URL faster plus it also improves your SEO. For example if you search for tomatoes it will bring up any URL and sites with information about tomatoes. If your URL has ?p=123, it will make it more difficult for the search engine to pick it up plus it will not work too well for SEO and there are other factors as well involved in this. This is jut to let you know why I always choose some pretty permalink setting rather than the default from WordPress.

Now lets concentrate on the message you see on the top of the page. That is just a warning and not an error. Your page will still function, the only factor here is that it does not look nice to have a warning on the top of the page.

If you decide to change your permalink bare in mind that what ever internal link you have plus the sitemap.xml will need to be checked because all your internal links will be broken.

Let me know if you need more help.

    Kind regards

Thank you. Our website is designed pretty much for local sales (we don’t ship) so I’m not really concerned about being found in google/SEO. It isn’t worth changing all the internal links.

I’m more concerned about the warning – Why is the warning there, and is there any way to get rid of it?

Ok can you check the shortcode you added to your page?

    Thread Starter fgilles02420

    (@fgilles02420)

If you mean the shortcode for the item to purchase, it’s only on a couple of test pages. For example one is [wp_cart_button name=”Primrose Cobalt Blue” price=”8″] on the test page
    https://middlesexconservation.org/?page_id=1046

If you mean the shortcode for the shopping cart itself, I copied :

    [show_wp_shopping_cart]

and put it as directed into appearance – widgets and dragged it into the sidebar, where I now see it as WP Paypal Shopping Cart. I’m not sure how to look at it as the code again

Can you share with me your shopping store URL, so I can check to see what happens when I try to purchase something.

    Thank you

The items to purchase will be on several pages. The only one that is functional right now is the one I gave above:

    https://middlesexconservation.org/?page_id=1046

But I know the shopping cart is working; I’ve done a test purchase myself and the transaction and money appear in our paypal account. It’s only the return landing page that I’m concerned about.

Ok, lets try something different. Deactivate all your plugins except this one. And test it again to see if that warning message appears at the top.

    Thread Starter fgilles02420

    (@fgilles02420)

Deactivated everything but the shopping cart and the warning is still there:

    I just checked your URL above and I don’t see a warning….

    (@fgilles02420)

I am still seeing it in IE, Chrome and Firefox when I test it in each browser?

Ok I see the warning again. Can you reinstall the plugin again and see if that works.
