I just switched over from a WordPress.com site to a self-hosted one. I’m having my subscribers moved over and would like to get more, obviously.

Here’s what I don’t understand – my subscribers used to automatically receive an email version of my new posts when they came out. I’m assuming, but possibly incorrectly, that my subscribers (old and new) will automatically get an email when my new posts come out.

So – what I’m unclear about with something like Opt-in Skin for example (which has some nice “put your email in this box” features…it says it works with Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, Feedburner etc.

Do I need to set one of these ‘newsletter’ systems up in order to get something out to my subscribers? All of these types of things…Plugins etc that offer a more graphic and cool way to convert subscribers than the the basic box…require some kind of ‘destination’ to be filled out.

I’m not sure if this means an RSS feed? Feedburner? I’m very confused about it and not all that advanced in terms of my understanding. Can someone explain this in layman’s terms?

I’d love to activate Opt-in Skin (or similar) but I have no idea what I’ll need or where to find it.

    Thanks!

  • If you want to have the same kind of subscription and notifications as on WordPress.com, you should try Jetpack – https://jetpack.me/
    and activate the subscriptions component.

    So…got that, and thank you.

And when I try and do something like Hello Bar, for example, and it asks me for a “Link URL” — so that someone can add their email address into a simple (but graphically better than Jetpack offers) form, what do I give?

IDEALLY I’d like to add https://optinskin.com/ but I think the same question will apply.
