When I publish a new post I initially send an email to a list that just includes me to test formatting. When happy I switch the post to draft and republish with the distribution set to my main ‘public’ list. However, this no longer works. Publishing a new post for the first time triggers email sending with no problems, but switching to draft and publishing a second time no longer results in emails being sent. Help appreciated. Thanks

  • Hi @steve7673,

Yes, it works like that. Since the notification is already sent once it won’t send the notification again for the same post. This feature has been improved in order to avoid duplication of the emails for the same post and has been requested by many.

Just wondering what is the purpose of sending a test email to yourself first?
As such, the template for the post notification remains the same, and it is only the content that gets replaced with each post user publishes so the formatting should be the same as well.

Hope this explains well. Let us know if you have any further insights on this.
    Thank You!

Thanks Asmi. Good to know nothing is wrong. I used to send an email just to me initially to check it was working OK and that the formatting looks fine (I often add things to the template specific for a particular post) before sending out to the full list. I can understand the reason for stopping the ability to do this as it avoids accidental duplicate emails but I found the flexibility useful. I guess I will just have to change my system.

    Hi @steve7673,

There is one way if you want to send the notification again. Though we do not recommend other users to do this but based on your use case you can try this and it should help.

You can delete the particular key for the Post in order to send post notification again from the Gutenberg editor itself. Click here to see the screen recording on how to do this. Initially, we delete the meta key, then change the status from Publish to Draft and then again republish the post.

By following this surely you will receive post notification.
Let us know how this goes for you.

    Thank You!
