    Hi,

    WP 4.9.8
    WF 7.1.11

I’ve been running the free version of WF for a while on several websites and I’ve not had this email before and I can’t find info in the FAQ section or in Google for that matter.

    The emails states:
No longer an administrator for this site? Click here to stop receiving security alerts: [link to website]

Why I have received this? Nothing has changed on the website and the scan is not showing any issues with files.

    What does this email mean?

    Thanks for your help,
    Karen

  • I got those yesterday too on some of my sites. In my case, it was the notification of the upgrade to 7.1.11 but the email was broken and only included a limited amount of its normal content.

Same here. Does anyone know why we are getting these? They include a weird link and email looks like a fishing attack. Is this legit?

    Hi!
What @nelson2a says is correct. It’s a legitimate part of the email and it’s there for the benefit of anyone who doesn’t want Wordfence alerts anymore but has lost access to the site (typically – site management has been handed over to someone else).

However, it sounds like a few of you are experiencing a bug where the main content of the email goes missing. Another user who had the same issue got it fixed by reinstalling the Wordfence files. You can try removing the “wordfence” folder in wp-content and then reinstall Wordfence from the WordPress “Plugins” page. All your data is stored in the database, so it won’t be lost.

Let me know if reinstalling fixes this issue. I’m also curious to hear if either of you have any relevant entries in the servers PHP error logs as I suspect a PHP error must be happening when that section of the email goes missing.

    Thanks in advance!

It only happened for that upgrade notice and all other notices are fine for my clients websites.

I’ll wait to see if it happens again on the next upgrade notice since I don’t want to change that many of my clients websites if it was glitch on that upgrade notice.

    Cheers,
    Karen

    Hi!
Since we haven’t heard back from you for a while I’m going to resolve this thread. If you have any other issues later on, please feel free to start a new one at any time. Thank you!

It’s actually still happening. I noticed it the other day. It only happens on some websites of my clients websites and only on the upgrade email not on any of the others. I’ve simply put up with it since it’s not happening on the other emails I receive from WF. Re-installing did not fix the issue. Since on one website there is another WF issue that you think is related to PHP I may investigate more with that.

    Hi @mtgamberwesbitedesign,

Thanks for the update. If you are using the same email to receive the notifications from all of the sites but it’s only happening with some of them, that would probably not an issue with the email client. We have seen a few cases where email clients will strip out part of the message but that was for admin login emails.

If it’s only the update emails and only on some sites I suspect another plugin could be involved. You could check to see if the affected sites have a plugin in common that the other sites don’t have. Older PHP version (as discussed in your other thread) could potentially also be a problem. If so, it should again likely be something all the affected sites have in common. If you haven’t already, you can also check PHP error logs on the affected sites. Anything that is logged there around the same time as when the email was sent could be involved.
