• I have a problem with email. We have installed wordpress on our server but it does not appear to be sending out any emails. I have configured it for both sendmail and also later when that didn’t appear to be working, for smtp. That doesn’t appear to be working either. Nothing registers on the server and nothing appears in wordpress’s email log page, so I have no idea if it’s email is working or not. Does anybody have any idea on what might be causing this behavior and how to fix it?

    Anyone? Any ideas?

Um, wordpress doesn’t have an email log page. The email server does though. Have you checked that or asked your host to do so? What email server are you using? Can you check with your host to see if they allow php scripts to send email?

Umm, yes, it does have an email log page, in the dashboard, under the tab marked “E-Mail” -> “Manage E-Mail”.

As for who hosts it, I do. I’m the SysAdmin trying to figure out why this thing doesn’t send emails. WordPress was set up by one of my developers (unfortunately).

Nothing appears in the server’s logs, which is part of the problem. I’ve tried using the underlying server’s Sendmail to send emails out. I’ve tried relaying it through one of my other servers, using SMTP. No luck there.

So, I’ve come here looking for help.

Have you installed a plugin to handle email? Like theapparatus my default install certainly doesn’t have any “Email” tab on the Dashboard. What version are you running?

Yes there is definitely some plugin in use. Please list all the plugins you have activated in the plugins section of your dashboard.

    Howdy folks…

I am having the same problem and hope to get some advise also. I installed WordPress on a hosted server using Fantastico. I configured the email with the cpanel outside of wordpress since I could not find any settings other than the admin profile. The email would not work sending or receiving so I called the tech support for my hosting service. They said the email setting has been changed to be handled by google and to contact google for support. Is wordpress part of google? Anyway… I do not have a plugin for handling email… can you suggest one? Can you offer any ideas on how to get the hosting cpanel email config to work?

    Thanks much.

My webhost said they could reset the settings… but my concern is that the email widjets and other functionality would be comprimised if wordpress needs certain settings. What are those settings, if any, and how can I get to them?

Please remember, I’m just the poor bloody SysAdmin who knows nothing about wordpress and didn’t install it on his system but has been asked to fix it by the developer who installed it and apparently knows nothing about how the thing works (which makes two of us).

WP-EMail 2.11 is the plugin that adds a email tab. I think your misunderstanding the purpose of the plugin as well. It only sends out emails if a visitor clicks a link that you have to place in your theme’s code. Have a look at the documentation on the plugin. https://lesterchan.net/wordpress/readme/wp-email.html There is also a support forum for that plugin.
