email notification to threaded comment authors

    I have a quick question though. Your submit comment script says that the emails submitted won’t be seen by anyone, but I can see the email address of folks that have left comments in the link with their name as “mailto:[email protected]”.
    So these email addresses are visible to the world at large, as such, isn’t it?
    Another point – Maybe you could have a question
    “would you like to receive emails when replies are posted?” Yes/No
    so people can submit their email as always and then choose not to get an automated email when a comment is posted.
    And – would emails be sent to only when replies to the same comment are posted, or also when someone leaves a reply to a comment posted in response to the comment. (quite involved, but I hope you see what I mean.)
    ?? I was just thinking about the lack of this email notify feature in threaded comments yesterday.

    I for one think this is a wonderful feature. Shouldnt be that dificult to implement.
    What should be done? As far as I can see:
    * Add a entry to the comments table saying that a commentor likes to recieve other comments
    * Add a checkbox to the comment form which asks for the email updates (yes/no). One could make the default value configurable in the general options. Tho this will be a bit of work.
    * Add a loop comments-post function which loops all commentors which like to receve an email and send it to them. All needed code the send email is already in the function libs.
    That’s all.
    * Please be aware this might generae alot of email/datatraffic and I dont know if provides charge one on this.
    phpBB has this bueatifully implemented. Thes forum package has also a feature to turn if off again, by a link in the link in the sent email which said ‘unwatch topic’.
    If everyone agrees on the requirement I’m willing to implement it.
