I have a blog site with multiple authors, and I have the discussion settings set to ‘Comment must be manually approved’. Only admins have permission to moderate comments.

I have set up an email notification to go to admins when a comment has been submitted, but is it possible to also set up an email notification to be sent out to the author of a blog, only after the comment is approved on their blog?

I want the author to know when a comment has been published, so they know to reply… but I don’t them to receive the email before the comment has been moderated.

    Hi @jbaldwin8,
    Thanks for your message.

You can create two notifications to achieve this:

    1. That goes to the admin in order to approve / decline the comment.
    2. One tog o to the author by using the ‘Send this notification to the Author only’ checkbox.

This will do what you want with the caveat that the author will also be alerted of new comments before they have been approved.

Unfortunately there isn’t a way to split these notifications into two – one for new comments awaiting moderation, and one for new comments that have a status of approved – due to a limitation within WordPress.

Hopefully, this is a suitable solution for you though.

    Thanks,
    Jack
