I just installed this plugin and republished an old post using it. The emails that go out via mailchimp / RSS feed went out perfectly. But I have a few old subscribers on Jetpak email and these people got emailed an invalid link. I’m pretty confident they got the link of the temporary post. Any way to fix this? (Yes, I know I need to convert off at least those that I can–it’s not being able to deal with the direct wordpress readers that’s got me struggling)

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I also use Jetpak to post to FB which I just realized was also wrong.

    Hi @iwilkerson

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention! I’m sorry to hear that our plugin caused a problem on your site. A bug report has been created internally and is under review by our product team.

We are aware of an issue with Yoast Duplicate Post and Jetpack where republished posts send out a Jetpack email with a link that leads to a 404. The cause seems to be that Jetpack hooks into the publication of the temporary “rewrite & republish” post, which is never actually published. It’s unclear where Jetpack hooks in here, but that is the reason it gets the wrong URL.

We advise you to also reach out to Jetpack, as having both plugin authors aware of this would help in faster resolution.

    What’s next?
Our product team will assess the severity of the issue and assign a priority level to the report. Our developers work on the highest priority issues first. We cannot give you an estimate of when they’ll start working on the issue.

If you have any further information that may affect the prioritization or help our development team solve this bug, please feel invited to reply to this forum topic, and we’ll share the information with our product team.

So, I decided I’d just eliminate those emails (converted them to mailchimp which I wanted to do anyway) and manually post to FB which was an easy enough work around. But then I had a problem with it not keeping my original URL when i republished. I’m guessing I inadvertently hit a wrong options (clone vs repost or something–it also changed all the dates on the comments it brought along). But since I’ve had two bad experiences now, I’m just going to delete this. Great idea but probably not ready for prime time.

    Hi,

In the settings in the WP admin dashboard > Settings (sidebar) > Duplicate Post > What to copy tab > post/page elements to copy, the comments are an option. If that is ticked, and you clone a post or page, the expectation is that the comments would be carried over, but it does look like the timestamp and dates would be updated as well to when it was cloned.

We’re sorry to hear you didn’t have a good experience with the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin. If you have any suggestions for improvement or any other comments, we would appreciate it as well, and perhaps can create any feature requests, enhancements, or bug fixes to further improve the plugin.

Sorry to tag along, but it’s probably similar to an issue which we’re seeing and which could be solved by implementing this PR.

    Hi @djr

Could you check your PR as it seems to have 1 failed check upon checking in GitHub?

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but it’s not my own PR. I just noticed an open PR for the same issue we’re facing.

    Hi,

I see. Thanks for sharing this information. I’ll have to check with our developers to see if it’ll help with this particular issue.

We recommend that you also report this issue to Jetpack as per checking, some of the feedback is – Jetpack hooks into the publication of the temporary “rewrite & republish” post, which is never actually published. It’s unclear where Jetpack hooks in here, but that is the reason it gets the wrong URL.
