• So im running wordpress on a home server. Whenever i try to register a new user it says it works, but the email never comes. im assuming this has to do with the fact that it’s a home server and it cant send to public email addresses or something? any advice/ideas would be great.

  • Might be. Some ISPs have port 25 blocked to prevent their clients from spamming. This may be occuring in your case.

Open up a command window and type in the following at a prompt:

    telnet mail.yahoo.com 25

and see if you can make a connection.

im not getting anything on that command ‘connection to host lost’. so how do i fix it? how do i normally send email from outlook, oh, i guess im connecting to gmail at a different port, but im sure you could connect on port 25 to other email servers. so do i have to set up some forwarding service to do it for me? how?
