Email field not visible to edit in profile

Hi! I’ve added the “E-mail address” field (one of the predefined fields) into the user profile. When I go to edit a profile, the field doesn’t display (making the email address impossible to edit by the admin or user). In the form builder, that field has “privacy” set to “everyone” and “visibility” set to “view everywhere”.

Can you please tell me if email fields are hidden from the front end and profile edit screen on purpose, or if something might be wrong somewhere?
