Email confirmation on purchase

No email is sent until PayPal has approved the transaction, contacted eShop and the order has been moved into Active.

Ooohh.. I thought it was automatic, so someone has to manually move the sale to Active for the customer to get an email confirmation? Can this be automated? And how does Paypal contact eShop?

It is automatic.

1. Payapal sends a successful transaction code back to eShop on your site.
2. eShop moves the transaction from Pending to Active automatically.
3. eShop sends out an email to the customer.

Which leads me be believe that something is setup wrong, because I got no email (apart from paypal confirming the purchase) and had to manually move the sale to Active. Any ideas why this would happen?

Never move a transaction manually from Pending to Active unless it’s a Cash or Bank transaction. eShop will not recognise it as successful and the manual move could create even more issues for you.

I have 2 questions:

1) Regarding the above problem:

I checked the Paypal settings and shop settings. The Paypal setting instructions according to https://quirm.net/wiki/eshop/setting-up-merchant-gateways/paypal/ are from 2011, Paypal has since upgraded.

My IPN settings are turned OFF as instructed, but it doesn’t make much sense, Paypal needs to send shop the payment confirmation.

Currency and email are correct!

2) Products Table:
I have done 2 purchases, one via Paypal, which didn’t record due to the above problem, but also one purchase via bank transfer. I received a bank purchase notification and the buyer received an order confirmation, as it is supposed to happen.
I confirmed the bank transfer manually and the order status changed to ACTIVE, however there is no indication in the Products Table that any purchase was made.
