email change – verification link

Hi,

When a new member signs up it is possible to set an option to send them an email asking them to click on a link to activate their account and so to verify that the email address is correct and so they can receive emails ok.

A few years ago forum member “Aditya Agarwal” asked if there was a similar option available in the situation that an existing member changes their email address. The point being to stop a member cutting themselves off by, for example, mis-typing their new email address.

The last reply on the thread was from “Ultimate Member Support”

We will check this issue and see if it is possible to add additional verification in the future updates.

So the answer at that time was No!

I wanted to ask if anything had been done for this very important and necessary issue?

I have tried on the site I am working on, and there are no checks when I change my test member account to have a new email address, so I was allowed to cut myself off by supplying an email address that was incorrectly typed.

The standard procedure is to send an activation email to the new address and not to change the profile address from the old one unless the user receives on the new address and actives by clicking on the link. I have manually coded this myself many times on non-wordpress sites where I am just building the site from raw PHP myself.

It might be with Ultimate Member that I need to upgrade or turn on a switch somewhere that I have not seen.

If “Ultimate Member Support” see this email and the issue has been fixed then I wonder if it is worth updating the original forum thread (now closed) – I know its 2 years old but this is the easiest reference I could find using Google and also this forum’s own search – it might be a good place to let others know?
