  • I usually use Google apps for the extra emails, but you can send the MX records to your host and set them up there if you like.

Don;t make full web accounts, you can;t map those properly. make add-on domains and put the server path to the exact same one as your wordpress install. Presto, you’ll get the mail accounts.

    Hi,
What do you mean with add-on domains ?

What do you mean with add-on domains ?

    I have cpanel

Go look at the cpanel menu. Click “add-on domain”. Use that *instead of* making a web account for the domain you want to map (which won’t work anyway).

    And look over these instructions:

    Hi,
I added an “addon domain” to mywordpressmultisite and could make the email account. But then the website I made at mywordpressmultisite disappeared. Probably because the website has the same ip as the mypresswordpressmultisite. After I removed the “addon domain” my website appeared again but then I can’t use the email account.

So I guess it goes like this with my website:
I type in the URL of my website, the computer looks it up in the DNS servers. The registrar dns tells it, that my websites lives on an IP. My computer gets send to that IP adress, my webserver directs me to my mywordpressmultisite and and mywordpressmultisite looks into database which blog to serve.

But now that I have an addon domain on my server under the account of mywordpressmultisite it goes wrong. Because my webserver directs it not to mywordpressmultisite but to the addon domain location.

    How can I workaround this?

When you make the add-on domain, there is a field to fill in to direct it to the right folder on the server. Make that the same folder as your multisite install. Do not leave it as the default.
