Elementor text editor text color not changing with ample

So I have installed the Ample theme
and am using Elementor to create a text element- but when i try to change the text colour within elementor, to white, from the default brown, it doesn’t update.
To troubleshoot, I installed a different theme (TwentyTwenty) and then the text immediatley updated to white. I have cleared my browser cache as suggested- no help.
Elementor suggest contacting you as it would seem to be a theme issue:

(To be sure that it is a theme issue, switch to a default theme of WordPress such as Twenty Nineteen and if it solves the problem, contact the developers of your theme. )
