Editting CSS Strips Backslashes

We recently performed an edit to the theme CSS file, and found that upon saving, the backslashes needed for FontAwesome were being stripped.
We found a workaround, to use double backslashes (\\) but this needs to be repeated for every CSS edit. With 70+ instances of this in the CSS, it becomes quite troublesome.
