Hello and Thank you for this excellent, feature-rich mapping plugin. A tremendous undertaking ???? .

Please help me with the following: I make edits to locations such as changing the marker, or label color and it saves on the back-end but the map on the front-end doesn’t update. If I delete a location, it still shows on the front even though I purge all cache.

Same thing with laying out the map – I put the location, zoom, long/latt in the fields when I get the map displayed how I want it, and it typically updates on the backend. But when viewing the map from the front-end it displays an old layout of the map. It doesn’t update to the details just changed. On 2 different maps it looks two different ways, 2 different pop-ups even though one configuration has been deleted.

I’ve purged all caches after each edit. I’m sure I’m missing some details but just can’t get the configuration right. The site is still in proof of concept so nothing is public. I’ve emailed you a login to [email protected].

Can you please get me through these setup details?

    Thank you,
    Shell

Hello! This definitely does sound like a caching issue. I got your emails and I will advise once I have a chance to take a look (it may be tomorrow if not today). Thanks!

Hello, unfortunately, I do think this is a caching issue. I noticed that, on updating one of the maps (changing the height of the map), and then refreshing the page, nothing changed (as you described). However, when I opened in an Incognito window, the height had updated. When I changed it back, and refreshed in Incognito, it didn’t change.

I had a similar experience with the marker color change. Unfortunately, disabling (temporarily) the W3TotalCache didn’t resolve the issue. I believe that your server or hosting has some kind of caching enabled on the site, or there’s somewhere else a site setup going on here that’s causing the cache to stick even when W3 is off.

Any ideas? Can you check hosting and see what kind of caching they have going on? Unfortunately the plugin can’t control or get around the caching since it does a lot by accessing API endpoints, and I don’t want to overwrite user-set caching.

Thank you for getting into the details and pointing me to cache-ing. I’ll work on what you said and get back in a day or 2.

My host is WPX and they helped me clear the cache(s). Here are the most constructive parts of the conversation, condensed for your reading pleasure. ??

“Upon checking your website, the cache status is missing, as such, your website is not caching correctly and that should be the reason why are unable to view the changes without opening an incognito window.” WPX edited the W3 Total Cache plugin to their recommended settings that works best with their WPX XDN too.

WPX advice to clear the cache manually after doing updates. You can do that through the plugin’s settings and from the WPX Client Panel for the CDN. Your CDN likely has this too.

You could also clear your browser’s cache, as they can get cached too. Just press CTRL + F5 or use Incognito Mode (CTRL + SHIFT + N) for Chrome and (CTRL + SHIFT + P) for Firefox. For reference, please check this article: https://kb.wpx.net/how-can-i-clear-my-browser-cache/

…The best way to hit them all should be:
    1) purging the cache from the plugin
    2) clearing the CDN cache from our panel
    3) clearing your browser’s cache.

I think the problem is resolved. I still have to wait 10-30 seconds for edits/updates to a map or location to propagate; and in Firefox I definitely have to clear the browser cache to see the page change.
