Hello @emilrueh and thanks for your topic. This could be due to a number of things which may not be related to the Web Stories plugin such as the machine running the plugin, the browser, the hosting platform among others.

I would be happy to check that nothing stands out if you are happy to provide your Site Health Information or you can share privately if preferred via this form.

I’ve seen this happen quite a lot and it’s 100% due to the Web Story plugin (the same thing happens on several sites, on Chrome or Edge, and never happens with any other WP Admin endpoints).

If you open too many stories in the editor one after the other, or have several Chrome tabs with several stories that are using the same process ID, then the editor eventually crawls to a halt.

The best way to solve it when it happens is to open a new Chrome tab in a new process and paste the story editor URL.
    Then it’s fast again.

I suspect that the story editor leaves quite a bit of garbage when editing stories one after the other or when having several opened at once in the same process.

    Thank you a lot @damian!
