User 1 (i.e. the first user created by WordPress during install) cannot use the visual editor. The editor is stuck in html mode. All other users (including administration users) can use the visual editor just fine.

Looked at the user tables in PHPMyAdmin and could not find any differences between user 1 and the other administrative users.

  • I am having the same problem after upgrading to WordPress 3.3.1.

I cannot edit both pages & posts in visual mode. It appears the HTML code is also appearing in the visual edit mode. You can see it when you highlight the text.See attached The password testpage123. The HTML editor is working ok and the page displays correctly in the browser.

I have tested to ensure that it is not theme related by temporarily switching to the default WordPress theme and clearing the cache. However this does not fix the problem.

I have also tested plugins by deactivating and reactivating them individually. However, this does not solve the problem.

My conclusion is that there is a bug in WordPress 3.3.1

So, the big question is how do we get it fixed? I have seen many posts of peoeple who had this problem way back in version 2.XX. Does anyone have an answer that actually works?

    Fixed.

For me the issue ended up being a problem with the theme I was using. There was a new version of my theme available which fixed the problem.
