This is the most recent of a series of problems. I’ll add background info in the next post.

The current problem is this. When saving a draft of a page or post, all Japanese text gets deleted.

I think something may be wrong with the TinyMCE editor or with the WP post processing mechanism. The most recent thing I’ve done that could be related was with the TinyMCE Advanced option to “stop removing <p> and
tags”. Resetting all settings to default did not fix the problem.

I’ve deactivated TinyMCE Advanced and all plugins, cleared the browser cache, and restarted Firefox (v. 5), and also tried starting a new page and post. I got some katakana (JPN script for borrowed words) and a couple periods to appear once, but nothing else.

I use the Microsoft IME for Japanese input, which is presumably unicode. I rarely have problems with Japanese text in general.

    Background:

I started a WP site about a month ago, and I rely on both tables and Japanese text. To get tables, I’ve been using TinyMCE Advanced, although I did use MCE Table Buttons at one point.

I don’t remember having any problems before upgrading to WP 3.2. I can say for a fact the the CSS styling in tables on the editor pages started getting messed up at that point, but the published view is unaffected.

In a couple of places I use tables as a quick layout hack, with headings and paragraph format text inside. The editor sometimes throws out the paragraph breaks (I don’t know if this happened after upgrading or if I just didn’t notice before). Elsewhere, the tables have no internal formatting, and are not affected.

Just today, I tried the TinyMCE Advanced setting to stop removing <p> and
tags. This seemed to work. Those pages were contents pages, using romanized Japanese only. Soon after, when saving a new page, was the first time when the Japanese text was deleted, both inside and outside of tables. Again, resetting and disabling TinyMCE Advanced did not fix the problem, which makes me suspicious that something happened to the core WP files.

Still don’t know what happened but the upgrade to WP 3.2.1 seemed to fix the problem.
