Started getting this error today and had to disable this plugin to be able to edit posts: “editor has encountered unexpected error”

  • Simple Sitemap (from version 3.5.10 to 3.5.11) broke all three of our sites. When we attempt to edit a blog we get the same error. The editor has encountered an unexpected error.

There is no version rollback feature for this plugin some may only “quick fix” work around was to deactivate the plugin on all three of our sites.

Same situation. The last update of Simple Sitemap (Version 3.5.11) broke the blog editor of all the sites where it was installed. When I try to edit a post I get the error “The editor has encountered an unexpected error.”

To fix the bug, I deactivated the plugin.

I am having the same issue. Cannot edit any of my posts when Sitemap is activated. When will the js errors for this plugin be resolved?

I have the same issue only it doesn’t seem to affect all post types. I have two CPT and one I can edit with no issue, another I cannot. Just rollback a version until this issue if fixed. I used WP Rollback – Rollback Plugins and Themes to roll back a version and all is working fine now. Or switch to the advanced view on the www.remarpro.com plugin page and you will see at the bottom you can download a specific version.

    Thank you, @nickbits.

For anyone debugging, the error I get is:

TypeError: this.activateMode is not a function

It only seems to occur on posts with a featured image, or at least thats all that seems to happen on my test setup. Or create a new post and editor loads fine, click to add a featured image and it crashes. Disable this plugin, or go back to the previous version and all is fine. Using WordPress 6.4.3, and plugin version 3.5.11 with PHP 8.1.

Same problem here. Is the author fixing this?

Similar experience here. Have to deactivate the Simple Sitemap Pro plugin to make the WP environment workable again.

I have done a bit more digging, as per my previous comment, the issue appears to be generated by the file:

    simple-sitemap/lib/block_assets/js/blocks.editor.js

If I keep the 3.5.11 update/changes and replace just this file with the old version everything works.

Thanks for reporting everyone. ?? The issue should be fixed in v3.5.12.

Thanks for the fix @dgwyer, appears to be working fine for me. Much appreciated.
