• I wish wordpress would stop bumping all my paragraph and column adjustments every time I try to get out of it. Why does it seem to want to ADD useless code when I don’t want it? Extra lines, spacing, whatever. It’s getting near impossible to move from one editor to the other. Even after updating, updating updating. I fix and adjust my content and as soon as I exit, there are all the issues i just fixed back again. And sometimes with a little extra adjustment for no extra charge.
I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong. I check the text editor and everything seems in order. I exit to view page and something else gets bumped. A column gets lowered or some other adjustment not requested.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • are you pasting in html into the editor?

    Hi Janet,
I’m pasting from Word document. Am I understanding your question? I’m new to this, so I’m sure I might be missing some nuance.
Essentially it’s this: Open Visual Composer, paste in my text from Word, add images, etc., columnize, try for the drop cap and justified text, update, exit to view page and generally the first paragraph loses justification. I go back into Text Editor,(because going back to Visual Composer will show me the right layout, until I update it, exit and view the page) cut [columnize]which jumped ahead of text align-justify (after update)to where it should go, to the left or behind it.Update, and there it’s not. It’s gone.
So, I gave up on text align when columnizing and just go with drop cap and left justified. Seems to stay.
Not sure why when I adjust the spacing, see it right there on the page -and then it jumps out right after exiting editor.

I might just go with the flow and forget text align. My other question would be, why does WordPress not have a simpler way to format text including indenting the first line of the paragraph? Blogging IS writing, and writers INDENT! This baffles me. Is WordPress staring a new paradigm in literacy? ?? I’ve heard the explanation many times. Blog or print, a paragraph is a paragraph and the grammatical structure calls for indent. Who designs a writing program without an easily executed indent function? No offense! I appreciate the help.

Thank you very much for the reply,

    Eric

Most likely the extra code is coming from the Word document. You should switch to TEXT view after pasting the Word content into WordPress. You’ll see the extra code there.

I agree with above… pasting from word document is messing you up and adding extra code. Try watching this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8XxgOV6SG0

As for your indenting, there are ways you can create the formatting you want, but it would be better to do this in your css file rather than on each paragraph.
    https://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_text_text-indent.asp

When I receive a word document I first remove all double-spaces and double-returns. Some people still use double spaces after a period, but this is wrong for both print and web. Hitting the enter twice after a paragraph is also incorrect. Extra spacing needs to be added in paragraph rules via css. Word has a similar method, but many don’t bother using it.

    Thank you very much guys!

Yes, sometimes when I exit out of ‘Visual’ Editor a lot of [/vc_row][/vc_column_text], etc. pops up on the viewed page. I have to go back and delete them. It seems that the “Text” editor gets you in and out without bumping extra spacing and code. The only thing is that I’m just starting to be able to identify certain code and spacing. Is it true that WordPress does not notice all the extra line space seen in Text editor (HTML)? Pardon my ignorance. Severe learning curve from oil paint and canvas to IT!

I checked out the link. So that’s what those buttons are for!

Thanks again! I should have something to go on now.
