Editing WP_Get_Archives' links

OK, following on from a previous problem which is now resolved. I have the 2 pages that both show posts (but each one from a different category). At the top of each of these pages I have used WP_get_archives, and used a plugin to allow me to use cat=x with it. So I have a list of the years that have posts within this category. The problem is, when I click the links they don’t work.

they link to /2009?cat=4 – which then loads-> /category/great-lines

but if i type in /category/great-lines/2009 it works perfectly.

So in my limited knowledge approach, I assume the easiest (if there is such a thing) way to solve this is change what the wp-get_archives links to?
