I’m not sure which version of WSP I’m using but it’s an older one. I was attempting to edit the background color. I went into style.css and changed the color that’s there and it didn’t change. I then read in Lisa Sabin-Wilson’s book to go into Theme Functions and add the following line of code: add_custom_background(); — I’m totally new at altering CSS and I know it can be tricky but I want to learn. Unfortunately, my site is now blank! So I must have done something wrong.

Appreciate the help. Not sure how to correct it. I removed the code but now I can’t seem to get back into the Theme functions at all.

    Thanks.

I gather from info I filled out awhile ago it’s 2.9.1. WP version. Thanks.

You may want to replace just the file(s) you were editing when it happened, with a copy from the backup you made prior to making the changes – or at least from your last backup. You may also want to clear your browser cache after that, and then log back in. That should put things back to where they were when you started.

Hi ClaytonJames, backup from Filezilla or backup from external drive ? — I don’t know if I even know how to do that but I can attempt to figure it out. It seemed like such a simple change; I didn’t expect it to have such dramatic results (and I’m not sure why it did).

I’m not sure why my entire WP Dashboard is blank tho’. ??

    what theme was active?
whatever theme it was, if you don’t have a back up, you will need to download it – unzip it – upload the functions.php to the theme folder

    Thanks Samuel.

It was called abluetheme (Teresa Jones, sochicdesign.com) – I have the theme saved but I can’t get into the Dashboard. Is that typical? Thanks. Sort of navigating myself through this…

You can replace the damaged file by using your ftp client, or by using the file manager in your hosts control panel.

    I’ll try that. Thank you.

I reuploaded the functions.php to the site but I don’t know how to specifically upload it to the functions folder. I get that I messed something up but I don’t understand why I can’t get to the dashboard. But anyway… I realize that people here are very skilled and I appreciate the help but I’m missing something in these instructions … I don’t know why this happened. I don’t know why I have no dashboard. That seems pretty extreme even if I messed up the code (which I still think I followed it properly but obviously something went amiss). My question is – how do I specifically via filezilla do what you are suggesting? I must be missing something. — Thanks. The host is saying to restore my site back to how it was I would have to pay $50 and I can’t do that. Thanks very much.

I re-uploaded the whole theme also.

I was able to go into the control panel of the hosting site and remove the new code under functions.php. Yay! So glad to figure this out. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it going again!
