Is it just that I cannot find it or is the “edit slug” option gone from the Write Post panel in WP 2.5?

  • Hi Rudolf,
Actually, they tweaked it since development — now the option should be directly under the post title on the Write Post panel. (You should see the entire permalink URL with a little Edit link at the end of it — click it to edit the slug.)

I checked on two installations and and I don’t see anything like that ??

Edit. Mystery solved: If the permalinks are set to default it doesn’t show up. Which makes sense…
Setting permalinks to something involving the “name” – it brings it up.

That’s definitely strange. Here’s a screen shot of what I’m referencing just in case. Chances are, if you don’t have that option, something is amiss with your installations.

I used default permalinks in WP < 2.5. However, sometimes I would still edit slugs just in case I switched to another mode. Is there a way to edit the slug in default mode?

Sadly, no, that option appears to have been eliminated for the default permalinks case.

Hmmm. That kind of stinks. For instance, my last post was initially a test post for an embeded video pluging I was testing. When I was done, I used that same post to write a serious post. The slug, unless the developers changed how it works, will retain the slug value of “test-video”.

    :/

Minor point, but looks like it is not possible to change the permalink for the page you designate as your static home / front page.

I can switch between PHP 4.4.8 and 5.1.6 on my server, and I can confirm that the PAGE slug edit line does not appear as expected under 4.4.8, but does appear as expected with no other changes under 5.1.6.

There’s also some sort of bug happening here where now and then the little link to edit the page slug never appears.

This is the second installation that I’ve seen this in: it usually does appear as it should, but once in awhile it won’t.
