Editing template: Adding a Tagline

I am trying to add a tagline to a template. I have read previous posts on the topic, but no success. I am only able to add my tagline (adding <?php bloginfo(‘description’); ?>) above or below the header (which doesn’t look too nice…). I would like to add it in the field where the site name is. Any ideas greatly appreciated!
