• Hello,

On page with a lot of text, I find that editing speed becomes too slow. Text takes several minutes to appear and it appears with a delay.

What can I do to fix this?

  • Which editor do you use to edit the texts?

This problem may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to deactivate all plugins and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-Four theme. If the problem goes away, re-activate them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to deactivate all plugins and change the theme for you while you’re still logged in without affecting normal visitors to your site.

This is not a plugin issue. It works perfectly fine when the page doesn’t have a lot of content. I only use Gutenberg as block editor, and it is impossible to work on long pages.

The topic has now been set to solved, is that right? If not: what do you consider to be a “lot of content” in terms of, for example, the number of words or the number of blocks?

I use the gutenberg editor. No the issue is not solved. What do you mean? A lot of content is a lot is a lot of content, once it gets passed a certain point, the page gets laggy and slow, and becomes more and more impossible to edit. One page has 51800 characters and a couple dozen blocks. I still don’t know what is the solution for pages not to lag when there is a lot of content, despite having posted two threads about this.

Ok, I used https://www.loremipsum.de to generate a text with 60,000 characters. I inserted this into the block editor. The result is dozens of paragraph blocks that can be easily edited. I don’t notice any slowdown in the editor. I used the standard TwentyTwentyFour theme and Firefox as my browser.

So I would need more information from you about what you have in front of you in order to be able to help you.

Can you show the actual text? Preferably the one that the block editor has formatted for you – you can find it in the code view of the editor.

Which browser are you using? Have you tried using a private browser window without browser add-ons? The latter tend to interfere unfavorably with websites, as I have seen in other topics.

    Which theme do you use?

I do use groups, columns, some editing with borders and border radius, changing heading or text size, etc.

I use firefox, I tried using Chrome where I have no add-ons and there seems to be the same issue, same with Firefox incognito (no add-ons). In between this I deleted a few blocks while editing the page, and noticed a small improvement because of it, but the problem persists everywhere, where writing is laggy, and the longer I type, the worse it gets.

I use the Zeever theme, from the theme library.

I tried it out again today, formatting the large text from yesterday. I didn’t have any problems with the editing. So it would still be helpful to have the content you used to be able to analyze it.

If you don’t want to share it, I would recommend finding someone who can look at it with you personally. You can find someone like that here: https://jobs.wordpress.net – or perhaps in a WordPress community in your region.

The text itself doesn’t particularly need to be shared because all pages and posts that are too long are affected. Since add-ons are not the issue, do you know what else might be causing this? I thought of adding the outline and list view as screeshots but they are somehow not loading in the reply.
