Editing source strings

I’m using loco translate, and this is the warning:

Warning: This is NOT a translation file. Manual editing of source strings is not recommended.

Should I just download the file once I translated it, and keep it in case it gets overriden by wordpress?

Though this forum is for Dokan Lite only, the general guideline for translation files is to keep them under the wp-content/languages/plugins folder so that plugin updates does not remove the files.
