• I have just successfully set up word press and have been using it for all of about 15 minutes now, so I am a rookie. I went into the page editor, changed some of the text on the page as a test, and when I preview it I get a 301 redirect error, (the page does not exist). I have tried adding a test page with the same outcome. What did I do wrong????

BTY, the site is at https://www.dcneuro.net/wordpress

    Thanks,
    Dr. S.

  • Is it also a problem if you use default theme?

But I notice that all pages go to another subfolder “blog”. You may want to go to your admin panel then Settings>General to see if your wordpress and blog address are correct.

I have no idea where the heck it went! I don’t even know how to find it. Using my site file manager, it is not on the root directory. I also don’t see it under pages in the underwater theme folder. It appears from my page editing that I currently have two pages in the underwater theme; about, and test. Cant find either and neither work.

Yes, I have everything in a sub-folder called “wordpress” on my site so that I don’t interfere with my working site. Once I can figure out what I am doing, I can reconfigure my site here in CMS and then convert, is the plan.

well….when you make pages through the editor….they don’t become physical entities somewhere on your server per se.

You won’t find them anywhere in your wordpress install, or your theme…they are in your database….

or did you try to make php files within your theme?

I actually did the install of wordpress through godaddy, it auto sets up. I set everything to function out of a new folder on my root directory called wordpress. So in theory, everything should be in there and it does appear to be. However, I cannot find the two pages I mentioned, “about”, and “test”, and, when I preview them, I get an error page that the page cannot be found.

Did you try what I suggested. No need so far as I see to go to file manager. Just go to your WP dashboard and
    1. check if the default theme of wordpress works.

    2. check if the url addresses in settings > general are correct.

@dcneuro I was trying to tell you that in wordpress, when you make new pages, you won’t find them anywhere in your directories. They reside in your database, which godaddy would have automatically setup for you and linked….

(just don’t want you looking where things won’t exist)

You are correct. It was the address. I inadvertently added the “/blog” to my blog address, not reailizing it would redirect all pages to that folder.

    Thanks!

Cool! I was just checking also and confirmed the address problem – if your remove “blog” in the url everything appears correctly.

    So you’re all set!

    Thanks, that was great!

Now I have another problem. I need to lower the two big white boxes with the content and the page listings as they are too high and covering my “tag line”. I lowered the side bar earlier in the carrington-text-css file by going from -70 to 0 for the top margin. I just increased that to 100 and nothing changed.

    Any ideas?
