• The associated internet mini-tutorial is a working example of the only way to re-associate WordPress (an Account) with a new, different, or renamed MySQL(Maria) database instance. You have to edit a file, wp-config.php.

Could this entire process of adding or changing a Database be made even easier, so that there is somewhere in the Settings area or similar to update text area(s) inside WordPress to make this and similar adjustments, with any relevant information that can go along with it, and propogate the change(s) correctly?

  • No, it shouldn’t be.

It’s “difficult” to do for a reason. If it was easy and had settings in the admin area, people would do it “just because I can” and end up breaking things. There’s normally not many good reasons for changing a database name on alive site anyway.

If you tink that’s a bit off, just look in the forums here for the amount of people that break their site by changing the domain name of their site in the admin, and the arguments about why that should be removed from the admin area as well. You’ll see that with something like that, people can and will cause havoc for themselves.
