Editing HTML on pages & uploading files (not working)

I have tried replying to other threads about this, but haven’t received a single reply yet. And I’m really frustrated.

I have WordPress 2.1.2 installed and I have two problems… neither of which I can solve by any suggestions I’ve read when searching these forums.

I can find NO place in my profile or settings to turn on the ability to edit posts or pages via HTML. So there’s no way for me to embed pictures, etc.

In my profile, I have the following fields to edit:

Username, First Name, Last Name, Nickname, Display name publicly as, email, website, AIM, Yahoo, Jabber, About Yourself, Update Password. And that’s IT.

Which brings me to my next point. I can’t seem to get the upload files thing working. It just keeps telling me that the admin has disabled it. And I’m the admin, and I’ve disabled nothing… and can find no where to ‘enable’ it.

Hopefully someone can help me.
