I was editing 10 published posts at the same time when there was a critical error on the server.

Now on some of the posts, the UPDATE button does not work.

I checked DB wp_postmeta table and no post has any ‘_edit_lock’ line showing.

In the Admin > All Posts > Quick Edit, I can change post status to Draft or Pending Review or Published, but in the editor, in any of these 3 states, the UPDATE button does not work, so changes cannot be saved.

Any suggestions as to where else WP is locking these posts from edit updates?

    Regards and thanks,
    Angus

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-One theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Hi James,

Thanks! I had not heard of the “Health Check” plugin.
It certainly make is a simple job to test all plugin interactions now!

The result is that a plugin called “XML Sitemap & Google News” is causing the issue.

With that plugin off, all works and I can save. But turning it on stops the saving of the 4x effected posts.

That was a surprise to me, as I expected that once the files was saved once, the issue would be cleared and over…. but it seems not so easy ??

Now I guess I need report to “XML Sitemap & Google News” with the news.

    Regards and thanks again,
    Angus
