I’d like to be able to allow Contributors to see and edit revisions from other users, but not be able to Approve/Publish them.

I have given them Edit, Edit others, Edit Others drafts, edit others revisions, and List others revisions. But this only allows them to see/view others’ revisions. The only way I can seem to allow them to edit the revisions is by giving them “Edit Published” as well – but this then allows them to see and click Publish Now from the Revision Preview screen.

Am I missing a setting, is this how it is supposed to work, or is it an oversight? Thanks!

@nickchomey Revisions approval permissions are based on the ability to directly edit the main post, so the split you have in mind is not currently supported at the access control level.

We can consider expanding that control but since this is not a frequent request I think it will be low priority. If you don’t need a hardened solution, it is possible to hide the revision approval UI such that users could only approve a revision by first manually editing their screen html / css to reveal hidden elements. Let me know if you’d like directions for that.

@nickchomey I should mention that it involves the Pro version of the Capabilities plugin.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Css should work to hide the approve button. If you have some code handy for that, that would be great!

And while I’ve got you, another related question – is there a mechanism with any of your plugins (be it free or pro) for merging revisions? It appears that if two people submit revisions, whichever is approved second will overwrite the first.

    Hi @nickchomey

If you ping our Pro support team, they’ll be able to write some code to help here.

Sorry, we don’t have merging yet. We’re about to release Revisions 3 which will make it easier to collaborate on changes to one revision: https://publishpress.com/blog/revisions/revisions-3-testing/
