Edit page without publishing it?

    I use WP as a CMS and it works great.

    Recently i created a site for a customer and got a “feature question” that i could not answer.

    I have digged through the documentation and the web. With no result.

    Cenario:
    1. A page has been created at a earlier state and the “editor” starts to edit the page in the admin interface.
    2. After a while of editing he hits the ‘preview button’ and the page is shown for him. So far so good.
    3. At this stage the “editor” wants to save his changes without publishing, so he can continue editing at a later time. I cant find this function!

    Am i missing something here??

    The only workaround i have found is to set the ‘autosave’ function to 30 sek. And when the editor leaves the edit-mode without hitting the ‘publish button’ he gets the warning that the ‘changes will be lost’. Editor ignores this. The next time he enters editing mode he can choose to view the ‘autosaved version’ and use this version.
    This is not the way i want to go with “unexperienced etitors”

    Sulution please ???

  • There is a “Save Draft” button, above the “Publish” button, and to the left of the “Preview” button.

    You can also set the page to ‘private’ on the Publish Panel on right of the page edit

    @budda trance: I my installation that button is only visible when you create a new page. Not when you edit a published page.

    @gr1f: I don′t want the page to dissapear for site visitors.

    Think of it as a “offline” editing of the page that is not ready for publishing.

    Any other suggestions??

    I am encountering the same situation. It’s become a huge issue. I am surprised only one other person has posted and no correct work around has been suggested. Without this functionality WordPress fails as a CMS.

    Is there a plugin that might help?

    i’m also looking for this feature, and agree that it’s critical for cms-style usage of wordpress. anyone have any suggestions?

    This feature is critical for a web designer maintaining a WordPress website for a client. When a client asks the designer for changes to a page that they cannot do themselves, the designer must be able to make the changes and save them privately inside WordPress so that the client can go in and preview the changes before deciding to publish them… all without disturbing the already-published live version of the page.

    I’m astonished that this functionality isn’t available… unless I’m missing something.

    Does anyone have any ideas or know of a plug-in?

    I’ve been meaning to ask for this feature myself. My workaround is to make my changes in Word and save them there. I paste from Word into the editor, preview it, but don’t publish it until I’m satisfied. Annoying, but it works. Of course, if you’re working in HTML view, you would use a text editor. I hope this is in the next upgrade!
